VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — AmerisourceBergen Corp. is set to begin construction on three new distribution centers, to be located in Olive Branch, Miss.; Shakopee, Minn.; and Newburgh, N.Y.

AmerisourceBergen warehouse_WEBAmerisourceBergen said Monday that building for the new facilities is slated to start this summer and take 18 to 24 months to complete.

The new distribution centers will operate within AmerisourceBergen’s current network and are expected to improve product access, boost efficiency in the health care and pharmaceutical supply chain and bolster customer service.

AmerisourceBergen added that the new centers are part of ongoing investments, totaling more than $1 billion over the last 10 years, to the company’s distribution network and IT systems, which handle almost 35% of all of the pharmaceuticals sold and distributed in the United States.

AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. (ABDC), the company’s drug distribution unit and largest business, has a network of 25 distribution centers nationwide.

“Our goal is to help successfully execute the patient-focused strategies of the manufacturers, providers, pharmacists and retailers who we support,” Bob Mauch, executive vice president at AmerisourceBergen and president of ABDC, said in a statement. “Enhancements to our distribution network combined with AmerisourceBergen’s unsurpassed knowledge and reach positions us to increase efficiency and drive innovation in pharmaceutical distribution and the delivery of health care.”
