Describing itself as the nation’s largest independent specialty pharmacy, Diplomat Pharmacy Inc. serves patients and physicians in all 50 states and offers medication management programs for complex chronic diseases, including oncology, immunology, hepatitis, multiple sclerosis, HIV, specialized infusion therapy and many other serious or long-term conditions.

The specialty pharmacy provider has made the most of its independence, according chairman and chief executive officer Phil Hagerman, and the company continues to do so after an initial public offering last year.

Even though Diplomat has become publicly traded, “we absolutely still believe that we’re an independent specialty pharmacy — meaning we’re independent of outside pressures from chain pharmacies, wholesalers or PBM ownership,” Hagerman said. “We believe that independence, that chance to be solely focused on specialty, is a competitive advantage for us.”

Besides catering to specialty pharmacy patients, Diplomat features an advanced distribution hub, a national compounding center, and a comprehensive training and education center to help employees learn and grow.
