Enterprising analytics at CVS Health

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

CVS Health this week posted a series of videos that spotlight the role of analytics at the company, particularly in its mission to put people on the path to better health.

The half-dozen or so videos, which showcase career opportunities in analytics at CVS, touch on such areas as how CVS is leveraging analytics to improve the delivery of health care, the key role of analytics in the company’s business decisions and the collaboration of its analytics teams in developing data-driven solutions.

“One of the things that’s unique about CVS is our mission to transform how health care is delivered, and actually solve some of the biggest problems in this country, about how do we make medication and health care more affordable, how do we make sure more people have access to the care that they need, and how do we improve quality and demonstrate it,” said Bob Darin, vice president of enterprise analytics at CVS Health, who has been in the health care analytics field for 20 years. “And analytics is critical to [solving] each of those problems and is one of the things that we’ve invested heavily in across the company, so that we can accomplish those better than anyone else — understand those problems, developing solutions to impact them, and validating and demonstrating that those solutions are effective.”

A core theme of the videos is that analytics staff — in small teams or at an individual level — can make a big impact at the company and for its customers and patients.

“The bottom line in our company is driving health in our customers. It’s not just you’re building a widget that goes off and does something,” said Stephen Holodak, vice president of information technology. “We actually make differences in people’s lives.”

Also appearing in the videos are Joe Novotny, senior manager for the Pharmacy Analytics Center of Excellence; Emily Kipping, senior manager of analytics; Carrie Flynn, senior director of marketing; Stephanie Civalie, senior manager for talent management; and C.J. O’Keefe in the enterprise analytics department.
