Express Scripts said the move entails its Innovative Product Alignment LLC subsidiary becoming a WBAD member. Bern, Switzerland-based WBAD sources and contracts generic drugs on behalf of its members.
In addition, Econdisc Contracting Solutions — a generic drug group purchasing organization formed by Express Scripts, Kroger Co. and Supervalu Inc. — will have access to WBAD’s sourcing efforts via an arrangement between Econdisc and Innovative Product Alignment. E
xpress Scripts said the two organizations will immediately begin developing a transition plan to boost supply chain efficiencies.
“The agreement between Innovative Product Alignment and WBAD will improve supply chain efficiency and advance our ability to help reduce generic prescription drug prices for patients,” Express Scripts president and chief executive officer Tim Wentworth said in a statement. “Our independent model gives us the flexibility to partner with companies like WBAD to make medicine more affordable and accessible. Econdisc is already extremely competitive today. By gaining access to WBAD through Innovative, we will be better-positioned for the future.”
