WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has opened its first walk-in medical clinic inside a Navarro Discount Pharmacy store.

The new MinuteClinic is located in the Navarro store at 16801 NW 67th St. in Miami Lakes, Fla. CVS Health, the parent of MinuteClinic, acquired Navarro Discount Pharmacy, a Hispanic-owned drug chain serving the Miami area, in September 2014.

At the Navarro store, the MinuteClinic is staffed by bilingual nurse practitioners specializing in family health care who can diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for acute illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections. Minor wounds, abrasions, skin conditions and joint sprains also are treated, and common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and hepatitis A/B are available.

The MinuteClinic also provides a range of preventive health care and wellness services to help patients identify lifestyle changes that can improve their current and future health, including screenings and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, as well as smoking cessation and weight-loss management services.

Clinic hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“This new location broadens both MinuteClinic and Navarro’s ability to serve patients in South Florida including the Hispanic community in Miami Lakes and beyond,” MinuteClinic president Andrew Sussman said in a statement.

“Our experienced nurse practitioners help adults and children feel better every day and make it easier and more affordable to obtain basic health care services in convenient locations close to home, school and work,” added Sussman, who’s also executive vice president and associate chief medical officer at CVS Health.

The Navarro clinic joins 22 other MinuteClinic locations inside CVS/pharmacy stores in South Florida.

Overall, Navarro has 33 drug stores in the Miami area. The stores are known for a large assortment of Hispanic goods, a strong beauty care offering and comprehensive pharmacy services its multi pharmaceutical services and its customer service.
