On the pharmacy side, the app offers such features as the ability for patients to refill and transfer prescriptions and view their medication history.

In addition, the Fred’s Pharmacy mobile app includes hundreds of digital coupons that can be clipped to a customer’s account and redeemed at checkout by shoppers simply entering their phone number, according to MarkeTouch.

“Our new mobile app provides the kind of value-rich, shopper-friendly program that our customers have come to expect from Fred’s,” Mary Lou Gardner, executive vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer at Fred’s, said in a statement.

Lyle Green, vice president of sales at MarkeTouch, noted that the mobile app pairs the pharmacy features with functionality to make shopping more convenient for users.

“Fred’s has been an outstanding partner. The addition of digital coupons and other features is MarkeTouch’s first venture into providing mobile functionality for the front-of-store and another solution that MarkeTouch has successfully beta-tested with Fred’s, ” Green explained. “The mobile app debuted in late August of this year and is available free of charge in iTunes and the Google Play store for iOS and Android devices.”

MarkeTouch Media sends and receives 200 million communications annually for nearly 15,000 pharmacy locations in North America. Its personalized patient communications include outbound notifications, central IVR, Pharmacist Connect, and mobile and web Solutions. The company’s turnkey hosted solutions include Optimum MedSync, Health & Wellness Scheduler, Clinical Solutions and Hospital Discharge Management.

Overall, Fred’s operates 601 general merchandise discount stores, more than half of which house pharmacies, and three specialty pharmacy-only locations in the Southeast.
