Kinney appoints marketing, supply chain execs

GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. – Kinney Drugs has hired Jennifer Whalen as director of marketing and Steve Harris as inventory and replenishment manager, a newly created position.
The regional pharmacy chain, with 97 drug stores in central and northern New York and Vermont, said Tuesday that both Whalen and Harris are based in its Syracuse, N.Y., office.
In her role as director of marketing, Whalen will oversee the development and implementation of marketing strategies for Kinney, including advertising, promotional programs and customer relationship marketing.
The chain noted that she brings more than 15 years of marketing experience, including as director of advertising and marketing at Empire Vision Centers, vice president of district marketing manager at KeyCorp and marketing manager at Morrisville State College Auxiliary Corp.
Harris, as inventory and replenishment manager, is responsible for the deployment of supply chain software, Kinney said, adding that he will be a key player in developing an advanced replenishment and inventory control structure.
A retail veteran, Harris brings to Kinney over 28 years of merchandising and financial experience and has held positions at Family Dollar, Brooks/Eckerd Pharmacy and Eckerd Corp., including manager of consumer and category analytics, director of merchandise administration, manager of inventory accounting, accounting manager and regional IT manager.

Kinney chairman and chief executive officer Craig Painter recently told Chain Drug Review that during 2012, the drug chain and its health care divisions will see the continuation of programs under development to support the company's growth strategy.
"These efforts include gaining the necessary efficiencies needed to offset the reductions in margin prevalent in both the public and private sectors, while expanding our offerings in both the retail and nonretail division," Painter said in CDR's 2012 Retail Forecast report (see Jan. 2, 2012 print issue).
Kinney's health services divisions include ProAct Inc., a full-service prescription benefit management company; HealthDirect institutional pharmacy services; and HealthDirect mail-order pharmacy services.
On the retail side, Kinney plans to remodel over a dozen locations this year as part of a long-term rollout of a new store concept. The chain also has expanded its private-label offering under Premier Value label from the Chain Drug Consortium.
