WellCare Medicare benefit consultants staffed at Walgreens stores
November 15th, 2012
TAMPA, Fla. – WellCare Health Plans Inc. is working with Walgreens to staff some of the drug chain's stores in 12 states with Medicare benefit consultants.
WellCare said Thursday that its benefit consultants will provide seniors with information about Medicare and Medicare Advantage programs, including options offered by WellCare, at select Walgreens drug stores in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Texas.
The joint effort will enable the consultants to share information and answer seniors' questions about new preventive services such as immunizations and annual wellness visits, WellCare added.
"There are changes to Medicare each year and important information beneficiaries need to know, whether they're selecting a plan for the first time or evaluating if their current plan is still the best option," Suzanne Hansen, group vice president of pharmacy operations at Walgreens, said in a statement. "With the Medicare population growing rapidly each day, more and more people 65 and older are seeking personalized care from our community pharmacists to help them get, stay and live well."
Eligible Medicare beneficiaries who speak with a WellCare benefit consultant will get a $10 Walgreens Wellness Card, which is good toward purchases on most items at Walgreens and Duane Reade drug stores.
The consultants will be in stores for the rest of the Medicare Annual Election Period, which ends Dec. 7.
"WellCare is pleased to work with Walgreens on this important initiative," stated Troy Hildreth, vice president of marketing, sales and business development at Tampa, Fla.-based WellCare, which provides managed care services targeted to government-sponsored health care programs, focusing on Medicaid and Medicare. "With all of the new health care law changes, we know many people have questions about benefits and how they can ensure they are getting the most out of their health care coverage options. Together with Walgreens, we can help provide Medicare beneficiaries with the information needed to make good, informed choices."
