Children's AccuDial honored for innovation
April 27th, 2011
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Children's AccuDial, a line of over-the-counter pediatric medicines from AccuDial Pharmaceutical Inc., has been named a 2011 Edison Awards winner.
AccuDial said Wednesday that its product line won gold in the Consumer Packaged Goods segment, one of 12 categories honored by the Edison Awards.
Children's AccuDial features an innovative, two-part label system. As the user rotates the top label to display the child's weight, dosing information is revealed from the inner label. Then the liquid is poured into the calibrated dosing device — included in the medicine package — to the exact measurement, and the child receives the correct dose of medication.
"Winning an Edison Award is both humbling and exciting for AccuDial Pharmaceutical," commented Robert Terwilliger, AccuDial's chairman and chief executive officer. "We were driven to create a product to solve dosing errors of over-the-counter medications for children. We found that by leveraging innovative technology, AccuDial's labeling system is able to meet both a functional and emotional need in consumers that resonates in the market."
The Edison Awards symbolize the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Alva Edison, inspiring America's drive to remain in the forefront of innovation, creativity and ingenuity in the global economy, according to the company. The nominees for the Edison Best New Product Award were judged by roughly 2,000 members of the not-for-profit Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG), an organization comprising the nation's top marketing professionals and academics. They were also judged on marketplace innovation and success, technological innovation, market structure innovation, societal impact and design innovation.
Children's AccuDial is a family of eight OTC pediatric medications for pain, fever, cold, cough and allergy symptoms that are available in more than 4,300 pharmacies and stores throughout Canada, and the product's website states that the nonprescription medicines will soon be coming to U.S. stores.
AccuDial added that it plans to launch the new Children's Pain & Fever with acetaminophen in five flavors: cherry, dye-free cherry, bubblegum, strawberry and grape. All five Pain & Fever varieties are slated to be available online by September on Accuratedose.com, Amazon.com, Target.com and drugstore.com.
