Planters adds quartet of new peanut flavors

NORTHFIELD, Ill. – Planters has expanded its peanut roster with four new varieties that build on its "Power of the Peanut" marketing campaign.
The Kraft Foods Group Inc. snack nut brand said Monday that the new flavors include salted caramel, cocoa, chipotle and smoked.
Planters noted that the new sweet and savory varieties reflect culinary trends and fan feedback and provide six to seven grams of protein and at least four essential nutrients per serving.
"These delicious flavors are unlike anything Planters has developed for peanuts before," commented Peter Cotter, brand manager for Planters. "While the new six-ounce containers are the perfect size for sharing, we won't judge snackers for wanting to keep them in their own snack drawers."
The new peanut flavors will be supported by the Power of the Peanut integrated marketing campaign, in which the brand's Mr. Peanut character reaffirms the nutritional, wholesome benefits of the peanut and offers "four new ways to harness the power of the peanut."
In two new television commercials, Mr. Peanut introduces humorous, real-life situations to show how choosing the right peanut flavor can lead to success in any situation, the company said. The campaign will also include print and digital media.
The new Planters peanut flavors have a suggested retail price of $1.99 for each six-ounce container and are due to hit shelves this month in the snack section of food retailers nationwide.
