Popchips adds veggie chips to snack lineup
May 15th, 2014
SAN FRANCISCO – Popchips Inc., a maker of popped snacks, has launched popped veggie chips at retailers nationwide.
The company said Thursday that veggie popchips blend nine popular vegetables — kale, spinach, tomato, pumpkin, potato, beet, bell pepper, navy bean and chickpeas — and top them with zesty seasonings for three flavors: sea salt, olive oil and Tuscan herb.
Popchips veggie chips, which come in a 3-ounce bag, are popped the same way as potato, tortilla, and corn popchips, using heat, pressure and no oil in the popping process. The veggie chips have nothing artificial, no trans-fat, no dairy, and they are gluten-free, kosher, vegan and contain less than half the fat of fried chips, according to the company.
The new popchips veggie chips are slated to debut next week at the Sweets & Snacks Expo in chicago, along with new popchips bolder flavors and bigger bags, the company added.
"No snack time is complete without veggies," staed popchips chief executive officer Paul Davis. "We are thrilled to be expanding our portfolio to provide snackers with the next generation of our popchips family. Inspired by some of today's most popular vegetables, we are really excited about our tasty veggie chips and showing our continued commitment to bringing innovation to the snack aisle."
Popchips are now sold at over 30,000 retailers across North America and the United Kingdom, including Whole Foods Market, Safeway, Kroger, Target, Walgreens, Wegmans, Loblaws and select Costco locations.
