Fruth Pharmacy ushers in new health clinics

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Fruth Pharmacy partnered with local health providers to open walk-in medical clinics at two of its store locations.

Fruth_Holzer Health clinicThe regional drug chain said a Holzer Health clinic opened inside its Gallipolis, Ohio, store and a Thomas Care Clinic opening in a storefront adjoining its Nitro, W.Va., store.

Ribbon-cutting events were held for the clinic openings and featured speakers from Holzer Health, Thomas Care and Fruth Pharmacy.

“We are pleased to have Holzer Health’s services available for our patients who come into the pharmacy seeking help for illnesses that require more than over-the-counter medication,” stated Lynne Fruth, president of Fruth Pharmacy.

“Holzer has served Gallia county residents for many years and is a trusted name in the community. Fruth Pharmacy is committed to leading the way to help busy families have convenient access to quality health care in our store locations,” she added.

Services provided at the Holzer Health clinic include treatment of common illnesses such as common cold, sinus infection, acute bronchitis/cough, seasonal allergies, cold sores, pink eye, upper respiratory infection, upset stomach/nausea, sore/strep throat and urinary tract/bladder infections, as well as basic physical exams, including for school, camp and sports. Diagnostic testing and counseling treatments include TB skin testing, pregnancy testing and smoking cessation. Available immunizations include tetanus shots and tetanus shot with whooping cough. Additional services include suture removal and ear wash.

Plans also call for a Holzer Health clinic to open inside Fruth Pharmacy’s Wellston, Ohio, store by the end of July, the drug chain said.

Providing family medicine and other primary care services, the new Thomas Care Clinic is affiliated with Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, W.Va.

“Health care is evolving to meet the needs of patients — there is a greater need for outpatient services,” stated Dan Lauffer, president and chief executive officer of Thomas Health System, based in South Charleston. “Our goal is to provide high-quality services for our patients and convenient locations. Being next door to Fruth Pharmacy allows us to provide both the conveniences our patients desire along with a well-organized, state-of-the-art clinic setting for high-quality health care.”

Fruth Pharmacy also has Express Care Clinics, affiliated with Pleasant Valley Hospital, in its Point Pleasant, W.Va., and Pomeroy, Ohio, stores. Overall, the drug chain has 29 pharmacy locations in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
