Lofberg, Bisaccia tapped for key posts at CVS Caremark

January 4th, 2010

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – Per Lofberg has been named president of CVS Caremark Corp.’s pharmacy benefits management business. In addition, the company has appointed Lisa Bisaccia as senior vice president and chief human resources officer.

Lofberg, who was president and chief executive officer of Generation Health Inc., a genetics benefit management firm and CVS Caremark strategic partner, was slated to assume the new post on January 4. Bisaccia, who was vice president of human resources, started in her new position on January 1.

Both moves fill vacancies created by retirements. Lofberg succeeds Howard McLure, who retired in late November, while Bisaccia replaces Mike Ferdinandi, who the company said last month had announced that he was retiring.

Lofberg has more than 30 years of experience in health care and the PBM industry, including as chairman of Merck-Medco Managed Care LLC (now Medco Health Solutions Inc.).

“CVS Caremark’s corporate resources and its leadership position as the country’s largest provider of pharmacy services offer a tremendous platform for innovation and growth in our complex and challenging health care system,” states Lofberg.

Before launching Generation Health, Lofberg was cofounder and CEO of Merck Capital Ventures. He also spent 15 years at Boston Consulting Group, where he was partner-in-charge of the New York City office and led the company’s worldwide health care practice.

“Per is widely respected in the PBM and health care industry,” notes CVS Caremark chairman, president and CEO Tom Ryan. “He brings a wealth of experience in working with key clients to understand the needs of the marketplace and produce meaningful results.”

In November CVS Caremark unveiled an alliance with Generation Health aimed at expanding pharmacogenomic clinical and testing services for PBM customers. With the announcement of Lofberg’s appointment late last month, CVS Caremark said it has upped its investment in Generation Health.

For her part, Bisaccia has more than 30 years of experience in the human resources arena. Since joining CVS in 2004, she has led major human resources initiatives, including enhancing compensation practices, restructuring human resources processing functions and managing all human resources support for the retail business, the company says.

“Lisa brings tremendous leadership to our growing organization of more than 200,000 CVS Caremark colleagues,” Ryan remarks. “Not only does she have a talent for inspiring, she has an exceptional ability to align human resources and operations to deliver positive business results.”
