Navarro brings back key execs

MIAMI – Navarro Discount Pharmacies has gotten Gabe Navarro and Marcio Cabrera to return to run the company.

Lee Armbuster, hired last summer as chief executive officer, is out, with Cabrera reassuming that position. Meanwhile, board member and owner Gabe Navarro has returned and is working closely with Cabrera and management on a day-to-day basis.

Numerous sources in the industry say they are happy with the move. “Navarro is a regional chain and a leader in Hispanic niche marketing — it can’t be run like a national chain,” says one executive. “They seemed to be going away from what made them successful, and both shoppers and manufacturers were being turned off.”

That is no longer the case. Navarro seems to be returning to its roots, offering upscale fragrance and cosmetics at value prices and getting back to the merchandising and overall level of trust that made it successful in the first place.

“I’m very pleased with our most recent results and trends, am grateful to the supplier community for the support they have provided in the past several weeks, and look forward to growing our businesses together,” says Gabe Navarro.
