CVS/pharmacy ‘taps deep bench strength’ of exec team

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – CVS Caremark Corp. has promoted a retail pharmacy executive and expanded the responsibilities of two others.

Judy Strauss Sansone has been named senior vice president of merchandising, while chief marketing officer Rob Price and executive vice president Scott Baker have been given additional oversight.

Sansone, who has worked for the company for more than 30 years, most recently served as vice president for merchandising and pricing, responsible for general merchandise, consumables and front-store pricing. During her career she has served in several roles, including vice president of health care merchandising and vice president for retail innovation and store design. In addition, Sansone was part of the core team involved in the integration of the former Eckerd Drug, Osco Drug, Sav-on Drugs and Longs Drug Stores chains following their acquisition by CVS.

Price’s new responsibilities include retail innovation and store design. With more than 20 years of retail, strategy and marketing experience, he will more tightly integrate the store and digital environments to create a more personalized experience for shoppers and patients. At the center of this effort are the proprietary insights drawn from CVS/pharmacy’s ExtraCare loyalty program, which is the largest of its kind.

Baker, executive vice president of internal operations, real estate and supply chain, will add inventory management and logistics to his responsibilities. In his expanded role he will provide senior-level support for inventory management and product flow in partnership with the merchandising and pharmacy teams. Baker also has oversight of real estate, construction and facilities, and front-store ­operations.

Cosby, 52, took the helm at the retail pharmacy division on October 1 after serving as president of stores for Macy’s Inc. He succeeded Larry Merlo, who became CVS Caremark president and chief operating officer last year and then chief executive officer in March.

The latest changes follow the departure of executive vice president of merchandising and supply chain Mike Bloom in early fall to join Family Dollar Stores Inc. as president and COO. Sansone assumed responsibilities for merchandising upon his resignation, while Ron Link, senior vice president of logistics, and Richard Widdowson, vice president of inventory replenishment, began reporting to Baker.
