'Smart shampoo' touted as permanently reducing gray hair

NEW YORK — Just for Men has launched Control GX, billed as the first shampoo that gradually reduces gray hair and provides permanent results.

The Combe Inc. men’s hair care brand said Monday that Control GX is a “smart shampoo” that, unlike traditional men’s hair coloring, doesn’t call for extra steps to use. Men just use the product in place of their usual shampoo for a couple of weeks until they reduce their amount of gray hair to achieve the look they want, according to the company. Then men can use it a few times a week in rotation with their usual shampoo to keep that look.

Just For Men Control GXCombe called Just for Men Control GX a technical breakthrough and “category game-changer,” saying that no other shampoo on the market provides permanent gray reduction.  The company said the Just for Men spent more than eight years researching and developing the Control GX formula, which resulted in two scientific patents.

The shampoo mimics the universal pigment in a strand of hair to create every person’s natural hair color, Combe explained. The product gradually restores pigment to gray hairs with each use.

Control GX can provide permanent gray reduction in a shampoo because the pigments are trapped inside layers of cleansing and conditioning molecules. The pigment is released when the shampoo is massaged into the hair, which breaks apart the structure and releases pigment into the hair, the company said.

And since the shampoo works gradually, it works on any shade of hair — except redheads, according to Combe.

“Control GX is perfect for a guy who is looking for the easiest possible way to slowly reduce and even ultimately eliminate his gray,” stated Ralph Marburger of Combe’s Just For Men brand. “It easily fits into the routine of any guy who wouldn’t use a traditional hair color.”

Just for Men Control GX is available online and at retailers nationwide as a shampoo and as a two-in-one shampoo/conditioner for $7.99 to $9.99.
