MPG said Smith will serve as a member of its leadership team and as a client lead.

“We are thrilled that Girard has chosen to bring his expertise and long history of creating high-performing teams and delivering market leading growth to MPG and our clients,” commented George Cleary, managing partner and general manager of consulting and sales services at MPG.

Most recently in his 27-year career at Bayer, Smith served as vice president of marketing for the nutritionals and digestive health unit. Among his achievements, Smith hoisted One A Day to the top position in the adult multivitamin market, developed and introduced category-leading new product innovations, led the reinvention of two stagnant digestive brands, and fueled market share growth for Miralax.

Before that at Bayer, Smith held such positions as vice president of marketing for OTC brands, during which time he played a key role in the North American commercial activities for the Merck acquisition; vice president of sales for the national drug team; vice president of marketing for nutritionals; and vice president of U.S. market research.

MPG provides strategic consulting and sales services to consumer packaged goods manufacturers and retailers, with its clients ranging from large, multinational companies to small, entrepreneurial start-ups.
