WASHINGTON — Scenes from this year’s NACDS RxImpact Day on Capitol Hill convey the high level of enthusiasm for the event among pharmacy advocates and NACDS members as well as lawmakers and other public officials.

More than 350 pharmacy advocates from 44 states met with members of Congress. The advocates — including pharmacists, pharmacy executives, pharmacy students, pharmacy educators and others — included representatives from 42 pharmacy schools, and 80% of participants were from retail settings, according to NACDS.

“It is exciting to participate in the legislative process. Regardless of what you may or may not think, talking about your personal experiences is easy and comfortable and you do have the expertise to participate in this event and meet with your policymakers,” commented Dennis Wiesner, senior director of pharmacy, privacy and governmental affairs at H-E-B. “What you take away from these meetings could be more important than what you leave behind.”

Through the more than 460 congressional meetings this week, RxImpact helped advocates reach more than 85% of the Senate and House of Representatives with key “asks” on pro-patient, pro-pharmacy issues, NACDS noted.

“The program has a significant positive track record of accomplishments for our profession,” stated Ron Jordan, dean of the Chapman University School of Pharmacy. “I can point to a number of students who had this single learning experience change their passions and directions.”
