Retail News Breaks Archives The National Association of Chain Drug Stores declared victory for retail pharmacies and military personnel and their families this week when the Department of Defense (DoD) said it will get lower prices for retail prescription drugs under its TRICARE health care plan. Tightening ties between its web site and brick-and-mortar outlets, Rite Aid Corp. is offering customers in-store discounts for watching online videos about select products. Take Care Health Sytems, the retail health clinic subsidiary of Walgreen Co., has added nebulizer treatments for patients exhibiting acute respiratory distress. Former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. executives Bob Dufour and Chuck Fehlig have joined retail, pharmacy and health care consulting firm Blue Ocean Innovative Solutions Inc. Walgreen Co. has again extended its deadline for filling Medicaid prescriptions in Delaware after announcing it would stop doing so because of proposed cuts in pharmacy reimbursement rates. Walgreen Co. has formed a joint venture with Vanderbuilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., to expand its home care services in the region. Cardinal Health has named George Barrett as chairman and chief executive officer. Walgreen Co. reported a gain in comparable-store sales for July in spite of a drop in front-end business during the month. CVS Caremark Corp. has formed an alliance with Inverness Medical Innovations that expands the range of services for chronically ill patients. Lifted by surging pharmacy revenue, CVS Caremark Corp. saw a jump in sales and profit for the second quarter and raised its earnings projection for fiscal 2009. In letters to Senate leaders, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores this week expressed its opposition to a proposal that would allow the personal importation of prescription drugs. Rite Aid Corp. on Monday unveiled a round-the-clock prescription refill service through its online store that lets patients retrieve their orders at the drug store chain's brick-and-mortar outlets. CVS Caremark Corp. has kicked off its second annual "See What's Free" campaign, in which ExtraCare loyalty card holders can receive a free gift for shopping in CVS/pharmacy stores.
