CutisPharma expands prescription mouthwash line
September 20th, 2009
WOBURN, Mass. – CutisPharma Inc. has introduced FIRST-BXN Mouthwash, the second item in its FIRST Mouthwash Compounding Kit product line, which includes FIRST-Mouthwash BLM.
The company said FIRST-BXN Mouthwash's active ingredients are comparable to those in the most routinely prepared formulation of magic mouthwash, containing Benadryl, Xylocaine 2% viscous and nystatin.
The kits are made for one patient and include preweighed diphenhydramine hydrochloride, lidocaine hydrochloride and nystatin powder, along with a premeasured suspension. Pharmacists only need to add the powders to the liquid suspension, shake and then dispense to the patient, according to CutisPharma.
Designed to save dispensing time, FIRST products can be compounded by pharmacists while patients wait. The company notes that the kits enable pharmacists to compound a prescription faster than those prepared in the conventional way.
In addition, a single NDC number assigned for the entire kit expedites the third-party reimbursement process and reduces audit-related adjustments, CutisPharma said.
"By launching FIRST-BXN, physicians now have two of the more commonly prescribed magic mouthwash prescriptions available in a kit," CutisPharma chairman and chief executive officer Dr. Indu Muni said in a statement. "The company anticipates launching two additional mouthwash products — FIRST-Mary's Mouthwash and FIRST-Duke's Mouthwash — in the near future, thus completing the mouthwash product line."
