MinuteClinic names new chief medical officer

March 25th, 2010

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – MinuteClinic Inc., the in-store health clinic subsidiary of CVS Caremark Corp., has appointed Nancy Gagliano, M.D., as its new chief medical officer.

CVS Caremark said Thursday that Gagliano, who joins the company from Massachusetts General Hospital, will start in the new post in May.

In the role, Gagliano will be responsible for the overall delivery of clinical care to MinuteClinic patients, the provision of appropriate doctor supervision to nurse practitioners in collaborative practice, and the establishment and maintenance of relationships with the external physician community, according to the company.

Gagliano has more than 20 years of experience in ambulatory care operations, including quality, administration, compliance and finance, CVS Caremark said. Most recently, she was senior vice president of practice improvement for Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts General Physicians Organization in Boston. She also has experience as a medical and clinical director of Massachusetts General primary care and women's health ambulatory operations.

Gagliano also serves as an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and is a member of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society, the American College of Physicians and the American College of Physician Executives.

"We are thrilled to have Nancy Gagliano join us as our chief medical officer at MinuteClinic," stated Andrew Sussman, president of MinuteClinic and senior vice president and associate chief medical officer at CVS Caremark. "Nancy has a superb background in clinical primary care and ambulatory care leadership. She will add great insight and experience to our leadership team as we continue to provide the highest-quality care to our patients."

MinuteClinic has about 500 retail clinic locations in 25 states and the District of Columbia.
