Retail News Breaks Archives Target Corp. is changing its pharmacy rewards program to make it easier for customers to earn discounts for filling prescriptions at its stores. Sluggish pharmacy and front-end business fueled a decline in same-stores sales and total revenue in May at Rite Aid Corp. Despite a solid gain in overall revenue, Walgreen Co. posted roughly flat same-store sales for May. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has commended the Drug Enforcement Administration for issuing its interim final rule allowing electronic prescribing of controlled substances. Navarro Discount Pharmacies has launched what it calls its Customer Experience program, aimed at saving customers time and money while enhancing their shopping experience by providing more convenience and pharmacy services. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores said exhibit space is now sold out for the 2010 NACDS Marketplace Conference, which starts this weekend in San Diego. Bartell Drugs this week is launching its "Stock the Pantry" food drive by accepting nonperishable food and cash donations at all of its 57 drug store locations. Loblaw Cos. has extended pharmacy hours for several of its supermarket banners in Ontario and is implementing technology to speed the filling of prescriptions. This month, CVS Caremark Corp. expects to begin rolling out its Consumer Engagement Engine, which provides real-time clinical messaging to pharmacists.
