Navarro VP recognized as 'up and coming' young exec

July 23rd, 2010

MIAMI – Navarro Discount Pharmacies executive Jose Alvarez has been named as a "40 under 40 Up and Coming" business professional by the South Florida Business Journal.

The South Florida drug store chain said Friday that Alvarez, who serves as vice president of merchandising, was selected from hundreds of candidates and, with the recognition, is considered to be one of the region's "best and brightest" young executives based on his professional success and community involvement.

Over the past year, Alvarez oversaw the implementation of several key strategic initiatives at Navarro, including its chainwide perpetual inventory system and the launch of the Navarro Vendor Portal, according to the 28-store chain. He also he led a major initiative to improve the product-in-stock levels at Navarro stores and is currently overseeing the retailer's e-commerce venture, the company said.

Alvarez was promoted to his current post as merchandising vice president in late May. He previously was vice president and corporate controller, a post he has held since joining Navarro in March 2007.

An active local leader, Alvarez dedicates as many as 10 hours a week to community service, Navarro added. He is a member of United Way of Miami and a fundraiser for Autism Speaks, and he has served on the financial committee for the Miami Overtown Youth Center.
