January 18th, 2011
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Former Giant Food president Robin Michel has joined Sears Holdings Corp., parent of discounter Kmart, as senior vice president and president of food and consumables and health and wellness.
Sears said Tuesday that Michel, who started at the company last month in its Hoffman Estates, Ill. headquarters, will be responsible for the oversight, leadership and growth of the retailer's food and consumables, health and beauty, and pharmacy businesses in stores and online.
"Robin brings to the company a wealth of expertise in the grocery and pharmacy industry, and we are excited to welcome her to our team," Bruce Johnson, interim chief executive officer and president of Sears Holdings, said in a statement. "Under Robin's leadership, we'll be able to uniquely serve our customers by providing them greater value in all areas of health, including wellness, lifestyle, diet and nutrition while offering over 1,000 pharmacy locations nationwide."
Michel previously was president of Ahold USA's Giant Food supermarket chain in Landover, Md., where she was responsible for merchandising, store operations, finance, supply chain, real estate and human resources.
Sears said that during her career in the grocery and pharmacy sectors, Michel has held senior leadership roles at such companies as Roundy's Supermarkets Inc., 7-Eleven Inc. and H.E. Butt Grocery Co. She started her career at The Kroger Co., rising from store director to vice president at the supermarket company.
