NACDS hires federal government affairs director

April 1st, 2011

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Julie Philp this month is slated to join the National Association of Chain Drug Stores as director of federal government affairs.

NACDS said Friday that Philp, who starts at the association on April 11, will play a critical role in conveying to lawmakers the ability of pharmacy services to reduce health care expenditures and improve patient health outcomes.

In her new role, Philp will report to Paul Kelly, vice president of federal government affairs for NACDS.

According to the retail pharmacy group, Philp will help advance NACDS' pro-patient, pro-pharmacy policy advocacy efforts by building and maintaining relationships with members of Congress and their staff, as well as by tracking key health care developments on Capitol Hill.

A resident of Washington, D.C., Philp served as director of government relations for the Association of Community Pharmacists and worked with the American Capitol Group on health care issues. She has also worked in legislative capacities for Reps. John Campbell (R., Calif.), Michael Burgess (R., Texas) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R., Fla.).

"Julie is a seasoned advocate with experience in pharmacy and on Capitol Hill, and she will bring a wealth of expertise to NACDS," NACDS president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson said in a statement. "NACDS members will enjoy working with Julie, and we are pleased to welcome her to NACDS’ highly effective team."
