Walgreens CFO, pharmacy chief, ex-CEO join boards
January 26th, 2012
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Current Walgreen Co. executives Wade Miquelon and Kermit Crawford and former chief executive officer Jeffrey Rein have joined the boards of health care service providers.
Crawford, the president of pharmacy, health and wellness solutions and services at Walgreens, has been named to the board of directors at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, a subsidiary of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. The hospital has 600 doctors in offices throughout Lake County, Ill.
In June, Walgreens announced a collaboration with Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group of Chicago, affiliated with the health care system's Northwestern Memorial Hospital, to develop a coordinated health care program.
Miquelon, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Walgreens, has been named to the board of directors at Acadia Healthcare Co. Acadia operates a network of 29 behavioral health facilities with about 1,970 licensed beds in 18 states.
The behavioral health care service provider said Miquelon, who's a former Tyson Foods Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co. executive, adds a broad scope of experience and knowledge to the company's board.
"Wade Miquelon brings tremendous expertise in a range of disciplines to Acadia, as well as valuable perspectives from his work with both large, established companies and young growth companies," Acadia chairman and chief executive officer Joey Jacobs said in a statement. "We welcome Wade to the board, confident of his ability to contribute to the company's long-term growth in earnings and shareholder value."
Meanwhile, ex-Walgreens chairman and CEO Jeff Rein, who retired from the drug chain in October 2008, has joined the board at Stat Doctors. The online medical consultation service provides patients with 24x7 online access to emergency physicians.
"Stat Doctors gives people a more affordable way to get health care quickly and easily because they control the process on their own time," stated Rein. "Stat Doctors provides a service that makes quality health care more accessible, and that's one way to make health care in America better."
Rein began his career at Walgreens in 1982 and became the chain's CEO in July 2006 and then its chairman a year later.
"Jeff Rein's invaluable and well-rounded experience working for, growing and leading the largest drug store chain makes him a tremendous asset to our board of directors," commented Dr. Alan Roga, chairman and CEO of Stat Health Services. "Having a board member with Jeff's experience, who's passionate about health care, knows the industry and played a key role in launching Take Care Clinics at Walgreens, will help take Stat Doctors to the next level."
