CVS Caremark names new CIO

June 27th, 2012

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – Stephen Gold is slated to join CVS Caremark Corp. early next month as the new chief information officer.

CVS Caremark said Wednesday that Gold, previously CIO of business communications technology provider Avaya Inc., is scheduled to start in the post on July 9.

As CVS Caremark's CIO, Gold will focus on bringing new and differentiating technology solutions to the retail and pharmacy benefit management (PBM) businesses, the company said.

Gold, 53, brings to CVS Caremark over 30 years of experience in designing and implementing large-scale technology initiatives in the PBM, e-commerce and retail industries. Before his tenure at Avaya, he was the CIO and chief technology officer for e-commerce provider GSI Commerce Inc. and had served more than 12 years in various IT leadership positions with Merck & Co. and Medco Health Solutions Inc.

"Steve is a proven technology leader with a track record of delivering leading-edge solutions to business," Larry Merlo, president and chief executive officer of CVS Caremark, said in a statement. "Technology is important to us as a pharmacy innovation company enabling us to drive solutions to improve quality, cost and access to health care for millions of Americans. I'm confident Steve will bring strong vision and introduce innovations that will position us for ongoing success."
