Retail News Breaks Archives Supercenter retailer Meijer Inc. has signed a five-year agreement to be a regional sponsor of the American Diabetes Association's Stop Diabetes movement. Ferring Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Walgreen Co. are working together to provide free access to certain fertility medications and educational resources. Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) have introduced a new co-branded credit card, and with the launch Canada's largest bank plans to acquire the existing Shoppers Optimum MasterCard credit card portfolio. Walgreen Co. plans to roll out its long-awaited customer loyalty program this month and today began enabling shoppers to enroll online. Walgreen Co. reported a decrease in comparable-store sales for August as introductions of lower-priced generic drugs pared pharmacy revenue. Rite Aid Corp. saw an uptick in comparable-store sales for August, with growth about the same as the previous month. Meijer Inc. this week began providing the generic substitute for Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) for free in all 199 of its pharmacies. The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) is recommending that consumers planning to go on a diet consult their pharmacist beforehand.
