McKesson readies for ideaShare retail pharmacy conference
June 5th, 2013
SAN FRANCISCO – Thousands of community pharmacy owners and pharmacists will be heading to Las Vegas later this month for McKesson Corp.'s ideaShare 2013 Conference, the pharmaceutical distributor's annual retail pharmacy trade show.
McKesson said Wednesday that this year's event, to be held June 26 to 30 at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, will provide a forum for independent pharmacy owners to share best practices and learn about solutions for running a better pharmacy business, improving health outcomes for patients and shaping a better future for the pharmacy profession.
"For more than 30 years, we've seen tremendous energy and exchange of ideas at McKesson ideaShare, reinforcing the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of community pharmacy," Mark Walchirk, president of McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical, said in a statement. "McKesson ideaShare is truly an opportunity for community pharmacies to learn from — and inspire — one another to implement new ideas for long-term success."
IdeaShare 2013's opening general session will feature author and futurist David Houle, who will address "The New Health Age and Emerging Pharmacy Trends." The discussion will cover upcoming changes to the U.S. health care system and opportunities for community pharmacy to enlarge its role and improve patient health. Also, McKesson executives will highlight ways the company is helping customers achieve better pharmacy health and announce the McKesson Pharmacy of the Year winners.
In a public policy forum, Ann Richardson Berkey, senior vice president of public affairs at McKesson, will give an overview of the federal and state policy landscape, including key issues for community pharmacy. This year's guest speaker will be Jon Kingsdale, a leading consultant on health care reform legislation, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Kingsdale will shed light on the future of health care and what it will mean for pharmacies and their patients, McKesson said.
Other educational and networking opportunities at ideaShare 2013 include the following:
• Health Mart Annual Meeting. McKesson's Health Mart pharmacy franchise, which encompasses more than 3,000 member pharmacies, will host its annual meeting and facilitate discussion and planning groups at the event. The Health Mart leadership team will spotlight core retailing principles that have helped the retail pharmacy franchise grow and achieve the highest ranking in customer satisfaction in J.D. Power & Associates' U.S. Pharmacy Study for the third time in four years.
• Ownership transfer luncheon. For the sixth year, McKesson's RxOwnership team will host this annual luncheon where attendees will analyze two case studies in small groups, share their thoughts and learn the real-life outcome for each case study and how it can be applied in today.
• Seminars and continuing education courses. Dozens of expert-led seminars and continuing education courses will be available at the conference. Topics will include how sponsored clinical services fit into pharmacy workflow, improving patient care and delivering new revenue, the next generation in front-end performance, new drug therapies, local marketing programs, and financial management and succession planning.
McKesson said this year's ideaShare show floor will feature more than 200 exhibitors displaying the latest products and services, including pharmacy automation and pharmacy management technology.
