Sam's Club Pharmacy to hold women's health screenings
October 4th, 2013
BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Sam's Club Pharmacy plans to offer free women's health screenings to members and nonmembers next week in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Walmart warehouse club chain said the screenings will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all 576 Sam's Club pharmacy locations.
Along with the preventive health screenings, Sam's Club will give away more than 25,000 breast self-exam kits. The screening also will include thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) testing, which measures thyroid hormone levels in women and identifies overactive and underactive thyroid glands, which can be the cause of various health problems.
Besides the TSH testing and take-home breast self-exam gel packs, the screening event features tests valued up to a total of $200, including blood pressure, total cholesterol
HDL ("good" cholesterol), glucose, body mass index (BMI) and vision (not available in all Sam's locations).
"Sam's Club is proud to have provided more than 700,000 women's health screenings last year and is pleased to again offer a free health resource during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to women in communities nationwide," Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of health and wellness at Sam's Club, said in a statement. "It is critical for women to stay on top of their health."
The retailer added that it features pharmacy benefits and health tips about women's health and the importance of regular checkups in the September/October 2013 issue of Healthy Living Made Simple magazine, which has a circulation of 8 million and is available at Sam's Club pharmacies, member service counters and online at SamsClub.com/healthyliving.
