AmerisourceBergen rolls out new pharmacy ownership program

November 18th, 2013

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. – AmerisourceBergen Corp. has launched its new Pharmacy Ownership Program, a new network with resources to help independent pharmacists sell their business to prospective buyers or expand their current business to more locations.

The pharmaceutical distributor said Monday that it also has gone live with buysellpharmacy.com, a new website supporting the ownership program.

Through the program, current pharmacy owners looking to sell their business are matched with qualified buyers who are interested in purchasing an independent community pharmacy.

"We understand that the interest of a pharmacy owner may be different throughout the life of the business, whether a pharmacist is looking to expand their business to multiple locations or looking to downsize in preparation for retirement and potentially sell their store," A.J. Caffentzis, senior vice president of sales and marketing for AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp., said in a statement. "Our team of experienced pharmacy ownership consultants is available to guide [pharmacy owners] every step of the way and provide confidential assistance from the initial planning to final sale."

AmerisourceBergen noted that its consultants assist both buyers and sellers, without a brokerage fee, to identify a location in the market area of interest, provide financing options with established bank partners, and close the sale.

"When a store became available to purchase, my first call was to AmerisourceBergen," stated Scott Louderback, a community pharmacy owner in Lincoln, Neb. "We worked together to evaluate the store I was looking to purchase and its future potential. After some research, we determined a fair purchase price, and AmerisourceBergen even provided a contact with a bank that specializes in medical loans. I communicate weekly with AmerisourceBergen about the deal we completed, and I value their excitement for the opportunity."
