Walgreens steps up flu shot shipments in California

January 15th, 2014

DEERFIELD, Ill. – A rise in the incidence of flu in California has led Walgreen Co. to ship additional supplies of influenza vaccine to its stores in the state.

Walgreens said late Tuesday that the California Department of Public Health has reported an increase in flu activity, which is now widespread across the state. The resulting surge in consumer demand caused a temporary shortage of flu vaccine supply in some Walgreens drug store locations.

However, with the extra shipments, flu shots are now available daily on a walk-in basis during pharmacy hours at nearly all of the 633 Walgreens stores in California, according to the company.

Walgreens pharmacists in California can administer flu shots to those age 7 and older. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu shots for everyone over 6 months of age.
