Daily health tests provided at Walgreens stores in California
February 14th, 2014
DEERFIELD, Ill. – Tests for cholesterol, blood glucose and body composition are now being offered daily at about 200 Walgreens drug stores in California.
Walgreen Co. said late Thursday that the health tests, administered by Walgreens pharmacists via fingerstick, are available to adults on a walk-in basis during pharmacy hours.
The cost is $35 for the cholesterol test, $20 for blood glucose and $15 for body composition. There's also a "wellness pack" incorporating all three tests that costs $65.
Each of the tests also includes a free blood pressure reading and personal consultation with a Walgreens pharmacist.
Walgreens noted that the test results aren't for diagnostic or treatment purposes, and patients are urged to share test results with their primary care doctor.
"Providing convenient, affordable access to health testing services is an important part of our commitment to disease prevention and chronic care management," Hayley Park, market pharmacy director at Walgreens, said in a statement. "As the most accessible health care providers, our pharmacists are spending more time with patients through consultations, immunizations, medication questions or concerns, health testing and other important services to help our customers get, stay and live well."
In December, Walgreens also began providing daily health testing for cholesterol, blood glucose and body composition at more than 60 stores in Maryland.
