Health Mart kicks off its Healthy Living Tour
February 27th, 2014
SAN FRANCISCO – Health Mart has launched its 2014 Health Mart Healthy Living Tour, which will visit communities nationwide to promote preventive health care.
The Health Mart tour bus will visit over 130 communities to provide free health screenings.
The McKesson Corp. community pharmacy franchise said Thursday that the annual tour's mobile screening vehicle will travel to more than 130 communities to provide health education and free health testing.
Health Mart noted that this year's tour will expand its traditional focus on diabetes to include other health screenings. At each tour stop, pharmacy customers and other community members will be offered free screenings for blood pressure, total cholesterol, obesity (body mass index, waist circumference and body composition) and diabetes (blood glucose and HbA1C tests for those considered at risk for diabetes).
The tour aims to help identify people at risk for health conditions that can be better managed with the help of a pharmacist, according to Health Mart. Attendees at each locale will be encouraged to engage with their local Health Mart pharmacists on health care-related topics.
"Community pharmacists play an important role in their local area by providing broader access to clinical services and medication counseling, which can help patients better manage a variety of health conditions," Steve Courtman, president of Health Mart, said in a statement. "Health Mart is committed to improving patient care and outcomes, and the Health Mart Healthy Living Tour expands the ability of Health Mart pharmacists to work closely with their patients as an integral member of the health care team."
Also during the tour, Health Mart will present 10 pharmacists with the Health Mart Community Care Excellence Award for top-notch patient care and service that promotes community health and wellness.
Overall, Health Mart has more than 3,200 locally owned pharmacies in all 50 states.
