Shoppers Drug Mart summer campaign to include online portal

TORONTO – This week, Shoppers Drug Mart is launching "This Summer—Only at Shoppers," a summer seasonal promotion that will introduce hundreds of exclusive "must have" products and an interactive online portal.

The Canadian drug chain said the campaign kicks off May 17 with the online portal and in-store magazine that offers seasonal trends and expert tips.

The new Only at Shoppers online portal shares seasonal trends, tips and product picks from popular Canadian bloggers and experts in health, fitness, beauty and parenting. Features include articles, videos and blog posts, averaging more than 90 pieces of content with topics ranging from kid-friendly travel tips to easy workplace exercises.

In addition, the "We Love Summer" campaign includes an in-store and online "Fun In the Sun" contest that launches on June 14 and offers fun summer activity ideas and a chance to win one of 15 grand prizes, including luxury trips and shopping sprees.

The contest serves up unique ideas on enjoyable activities and the chance to win one of 250 photobook prizes instantly or one of five vacations to Sandals Grande Riviera, Ocho Rios, Jamaica with Air Canada Vacations and one of 10 Shoppers Drug Mart shopping sprees of $2,000. Customers can get a chance to win by receiving a pin-card with in-store purchases using their Shoppers Optimum Card, plus enter online. The contest runs in-store and online at through July 11.

"We're all looking forward to the warmer weather and spending more time outside especially after the winter we just had," Chong Bang, senior vice president of merchandising at Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a statement. "We want to help Canadians get the most out of summer by offering great new products, seasonal tips and a chance to win valuable prizes." 

As part of the campaign, Shoppers Drug Mart said its stores will showcase an array of "Summer Must Have" products designed to help people "live healthy, look beautiful, feel rejuvenated and get organized."

The drug chain said the latest skin care trends include deep-cleansing charcoal formulas, such as the new Baléa Charcoal Facial Cleanser ($6.99), and facial masks, such as the Masque Bar range by Look Beauty (three for $9.99). Summer makeup shades range from bright and bold to raw and natural. Must-have beauty products for the season also include Quo's Mega Bronzer ($20) and Multi-Purpose Makeup Brush ($25), a useful tool for home and travel.

"Purple hues are trending, along with graphic eyeliner and bright, matte lip colours, and you can't fail with a natural sun-kissed look," commented Shoppers Drug Mart beauty expert Pierce Rees.

Shoppers Drug Mart's summer campaign will be supported in-store with point-of-purchase materials, consumer e-mails and in-store radio, along with owned and social media. In Television, radio and digital advertising will also support the in-store and online contest and communicate attractive offers, the retailer added.

Overall, Shoppers Drug Mart — now part of Loblaw Cos. — operates 1,253 drug stores under the Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix banners in each province and two territories, as well as 59 medical clinic pharmacies under the name Shoppers Simply Pharmacy (Pharmaprix Simplement Santé in Québec), six Murale luxury beauty stores and 62 Shoppers Home Health Care stores.
