Little Colds Honey Elixir joins Little Remedies line

December 10th, 2010

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Prestige Brands Inc. has added Little Colds Honey Elixir, a nonmedicated treatment for cough and sore throat, to its Little Remedies line of pediatric over-the-counter products.

The company said Thursday that Little Colds Honey Elixir brings the benefits of natural honey to children ages 1 to 4, the group most often advised against taking medicated products for coughs or sore throat.

Many pediatricians are now recommending honey for their patients in the wake of a published study concluding that it may be a preferred treatment for the cough and resulting sleep difficulty associated with upper respiratory infection, Prestige Brands reported.

Little Colds Honey Elixir contains honey and other ingredients for a pleasant, sweet taste that makes taking the elixir easier for children who don't like the taste of most medications, according to the company. A teaspoon is recommended every two to four hours using the measuring cup provided with the product. Honey Elixir may also be used by children over age 4 in a dosage of two teaspoons.

"The incidence of cough is already higher this year than last among children under 5, according to the Fan Flu data reports in November," stated Jean Boyko, Ph.D., senior vice president of science and technology for Prestige Brands. "Little Colds Honey Elixir is on store shelves now, just in time for the cough and cold season, ready to fill the unmet need for children ages 1 to 4 who are advised not to take medicated products."

The Little Remedies line now offers four products for the treatment of cough and cold symptoms in children age 4 and younger, including Little Colds Safety Pops for sore throat irritation, Little Noses Saline for nasal congestion, Little Fevers for fever and pain relief, and the new Little Colds Honey Elixir (not for use in children less than one year old).
