AstraZeneca allows Crestor, Nexium users to 'chat'

April 28th, 2011

WILMINGTON, Del. – AstraZeneca has unveiled a click-to-chat feature on its consumer websites for its Crestor and Nexium prescription medications.

The pharmaceutical manufacturer said Wednesday that the chat technology on Crestor.com and PurplePill.com (for Nexium) enables consumers to contact an AstraZeneca customer service representative with the a click of a button.

The live, online chat option, similar to instant messaging, can be accessed on the "Contact Us" pages of the Crestor and Nexium websites.

"AstraZeneca understands that our consumers want flexibility, especially when it comes to health information," stated Donna Holder, senior director of the AstraZeneca Information Center. "This new resource enables consumers to have easier access to the information they seek through the convenience of a real-time, online channel."

Last October, the Crestor and Nexium websites launched a feature dubbed "Call Me Now," which gies visitors the option to receive a personal phone call from an AstraZeneca Information Center rep to answer their questions about the medications without having to go through telephone prompts, wait on the line or listen to a recording.

"AstraZeneca is one of the first pharmaceutical companies to use this technology, making it a very forward-thinking company in the pharmaceutical industry," according to Don Keane, vice president of marketing and product strategy for Angel, a leading provider of customer interaction solutions such as interactive voice response (IVR) and chat technologies. "Click-to-chat enables consumers to engage in a live chat session and interact directly with AstraZeneca representatives, adding another communications channel for great customer service."

Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) is designed to lower the level of "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood while raising the level of "good" cholesterol. A proton pump inhibitor, Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) decreases stomach acid and is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid.
