May 11th, 2011
PITTSTON, Pa. – Nature's Omega has begun distributing OmegaWater, its flavored water fortified with omega-3s, to Duane Reade drug stores in metropolitan New York.
The Pittston, Pa.-based company, a subsidiary of bottled water supplier Nature's Way Purewater Systems, said this week that each bottle of zero-sugar, zero-calorie OmegaWater provides100 mg of omega-3s and is fortified with six essential vitamins.
OmegaWater comes in four natural flavors: Berry Breeze, Fruit Fusion, Lemon Squeeze and Orange Splash.
Nature's Omega noted that with OmegaWater, drinking bottled water "will do more than just hydrate the body." The company said that more than 14,000 studies and reports have been published in support of the health benefits of the omega-3 components EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) for the maintenance of coronary heart health and the normal development of cognitive, vision and neurological health. Also, recent studies have illustrated omega-3's efficacy relating to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, lupus, anti-aging, obesity and certain cancers.
"Duane Reade is committed to meeting the health needs of New Yorkers, and we are thrilled to have on our shelves now the first clear, flavored water to deliver the health advantages of omega-3s," Paul Tiberio, senior vice president of merchandising and marketing at Duane Reade, said in a statement.
Duane Reade, a subsidiary of Walgreen Co., has more than 250 drug stores in New York and New Jersey.
