Nipro honored as a top manufacturer in Florida
December 5th, 2011
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nipro Diagnostics Inc. has won the 2011 Manufacturer of the Year Award from the Manufacturers Association of Florida (MAF).
The diabetes management product company said Monday that it was recognized in the large company category (more than 500 employees). The MAF award is based on an evaluation of leading-edge management practices, manufacturing and process quality, and other performance-excellence criteria.
Nipro was presented with the award last week at the 2011 MAF Manufacturers Summit & Marketplace award ceremony, which was attended by leading Florida manufacturers as well as Florida Gov. Rick Scott.
"This award is a tribute to the employees of Nipro Diagnostics," stated Scott Verner, president and chief executive officer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Nipro, said in a statement. "We build excellence into every aspect of our operations, and this recognition exemplifies our dedication to manufacturing quality blood glucose monitoring systems. I congratulate every employee who has helped us achieve and maintain our quality/value leadership position in our industry."
Out of the nearly 18,000 manufacturers in Florida, just 17 were selected as finalists, according to Nipro. In its category, the company competed against such other firms as Anheuser-Busch InBev Inc., BAE Systems, Georgia-Pacific Corp. and Publix Super Markets Inc.
"Congratulations to Nipro Diagnostics on receiving this recognition," Gov. Scott said in a statement. "As a low-cost manufacturer of products for people with diabetes, the company plays a vital role in making health care more affordable."
Earlier this year, Nipro was named South Florida Manufacturer of the Year in the 200-plus employee category by the South Florida Manufacturers Association.
In other news, Nipro on Monday also announced the purchase of two buildings in Fort Lauderdale. The company said it plans to expand manufacturing and other operations in the two facilities.
"The acquisition of these buildings solidifies our presence in South Florida and is another example of our commitment to growing our business," Verner commented.
