Dr. Reddy's launches Lipitor generic

July 18th, 2012

HYDERABAD, India – Dr. Reddy's Laboratories has shipped atorvastatin calcium tablets, a medication for high cholesterol, in the U.S. market.

The company said Wednesday that its product comes in strengths of 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg and is a bioequivalent generic version of Lipitor, Pfizer's blockbuster cholesterol-lowering drug that lost patent protection at the end of November.

Dr. Reddy's atorvastatin calcium tablets are available in bottle-count sizes of 90 and 500.

Lipitor had U.S. sales of about $8.07 billion for the 12 months ended in March, according to IMS Health figures cited by Dr. Reddy's.
