DenTek unveils OTC dental guard for nighttime teeth grinding
October 8th, 2012
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – This month, DenTek is launching what it calls a "revolutionary" over-the-counter dental guard for people who grind or clench their teeth at night, known as bruxism.
The oral care company said Monday that the DenTek Professional Fit Maximum Protection Dental Guard protects against the oral damage of nighttime bruxism with a patent-pending forming tray to fit a person's unique oral contours, just like one created in a dentist's office.
Costing just $30, DenTek's new dental guard provides professional-like protection without the dentist-office price tag, which can often amount to hundreds of dollars and isn't covered by most dental insurance programs, the company noted.
The product is being rolled out in October at most drug stores, supermarkets and superstores.
"At DenTek, we want to be responsive to our consumers' needs, and a big part of that responsiveness is providing affordable solutions," stated Charlotte Havely, DenTek's director of marketing. "This dental guard can help millions of people who otherwise would be without an affordable treatment for this debilitating condition."
The company reported that one in three Americans suffer from nighttime bruxism, which causes people to clench and grind their teeth when sleeping. Though bruxism also occurs during the day, nighttime grinding is a bigger problem and far more damaging because when it happens during sleep, people don't know it and can't control it. Over time, the condition wears down, flattens, fractures and chips teeth, which can result in thousands of dollars in dental care treatments.
