Ocean Blue omega-3 supplements make OTC debut at CVS
August 6th, 2013
RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. – Sancilio & Company Inc.'s Ocean Blue Omega-3 and Omega-3 + Vitamin D3 MiniCaps have hit shelves at CVS/pharmacy stores nationwide.
The company said Tuesday that consumers can now get pharmaceutical-grade omega-3 in one small, easy-to-swallow softgel.
Made using SCI's proprietary Advanced Lipid Technologies, Ocean Blue Omega-3 and Omega-3 + Vitamin D3 contain 350 mg of Omega-3 (225 mg EPA and 100 mg DHA, plus 25 mg of other omegas) per capsule, which is three-and-a half times more than typical krill oil products, according to the company.
Ocean Blue products are also 88% pure omega-3, whereas fish oil and krill oil supplements are 30% or less, SCI added.
Fred Sancilio, chairman, president and chief executive officer of SCI, noted that Ocean Blue Omega-3 and Omega-3 + Vitamin D3 are the company's first offerings for the over-the-counter market.
"In refined pharmaceutical-grade oils, such as those used in Ocean Blue products, the oil is molecularly distilled up to 26 times, resulting in a product that has virtually no fish smell or taste. We want to give people greater access to the best options available," Sancilio explained. "This is the first time that an omega-3 supplement of this quality, dosage and value has been available at a national retail chain. Plus, consumers will have the confidence of knowing that Ocean Blue Omega-3 supplements are made in the USA."
Each Ocean Blue supplement has a vanilla flavor and is scientifically formulated to have the correct ratio of EPA to DHA, which have been shown to be effective in clinical studies to maintain healthy triglyceride levels, SCI said. Ocean Blue supplements are also made without gluten, sugar or lactose.
