Bayer Contour Next Link OK'd for use with new Medtronic system
October 21st, 2013
WHIPPANY, N.J. – Bayer HealthCare's Contour Next Link blood glucose monitoring system has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration as a component of Medtronic's new MiniMed 530G with Enlite diabetes management device system with threshold suspend automation.
Bayer said Monday that Contour Next Link provides seamless integration as a part of the MiniMed 530G insulin pump system, transmitting highly accurate blood glucose results wirelessly to the insulin pump.
Featuring Bayer's new blood glucose sensor technology, Contour Next Link's high level of accuracy meets the requirements of ISO 15197:2013. The proprietary electrochemical mediator and meter algorithm in the system provides a stable, high signal-to-noise ratio that facilitates accurate determination of blood glucose readings, even at low blood glucose levels, according to Bayer. The new technology also ensures that the system remains accurate under a wide range of storage conditions, corrects for common errors and isn't affected by hematocrit or many common interfering substances in the blood, such as acetaminophen and vitamin C.
Contour Next Link is the only blood glucose monitor labeled for use in the United States with the MiniMed 530G with Enlite, Bayer noted, adding that Contour Next Link is compatible with Paradigm REAL-Time Revel and Paradigm REAL-Time Insulin Pumps and the Guardian REAL-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring System.
