Frito-Lay's Smartfood rolls out reduced-fat popcorn

February 25th, 2014

PLANO, Texas – Frito-Lay North America has launched Smartfood Delight popcorn, a line of reduced-fat popcorn for consumers seeking healthier snacking options.

The PepsiCo snack division said Tuesday that Smartfood Delight is made from 100% whole-grain popcorn and contains just 35 calories per cup. The popcorn also is gluten-free and has no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

The new snack comes in two flavors: Smartfood Delight Sea Salt Popcorn and Smartfood Delight White Cheddar Popcorn, which the company said has 50% less fat than regular Smartfood White Cheddar Popcorn.

"Consumers are becoming increasingly more aware of their snacking choices, which is why we created Smartfood Delight popcorn, answering the need for a new reduced-fat snack that doesn't compromise on delicious flavor," stated Dave Skena, vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay. "At 35 calories per cup, Smartfood Delight snacks offer popcorn lovers a flavorful new option they can feel good about eating."

Smartfood Delight Sea Salt popcorn is available in 5.5-ounce bags and Smartfood Delight White Cheddar popcorn comes in 6.5-ounce bags, both carrying a suggested retail price of $3.99 each.
