American Greetings extends line with pop-up cards

CLEVELAND – American Greetings Corp. has rolled out Blown Away, a new collection of pop-up birthday cards featuring lights and sound.

The greeting card company said the interactive cards feature blow sensor technology. Each card in the collection includes a mini pop-up cake on the inside that lights up once the card is opened. The card gives out a light and sound surprise once the candle is blown out.

Designs in the collection include a fiesta that has a pinata and mariachi music; a card with serenading cartoon animals; a tasty-looking chocolate mousse with gentle instrumentals; and a festive cake with flashy stars and tunes.

Blown Away cards are now available at drug, supermarket and mass retail chains nationwide, as well as at American Greetings and Carlton Cards retail stores.

“Because we know that consumers love extraordinary new ways to share birthday smiles with the important people in their lives, American Greetings is thrilled to introduce Blown Away,” says Carol Miller, vice president of corporate innovation at American Greetings. “Blown Away takes birthday cards to a whole new level as they capture the wish-making moment of blowing out the birthday cake candle.”

American Greetings also has introduced more than 100 new greeting card formats under the Inventions brand, offering innovative ways of celebrating birthdays and other occasions. The Blown Away range can be found at participating drug chains, grocery stores and mass retailers nationwide.

The company has also brought out new spring ranges for St. Patrick’s Day, Passover, Easter, First Communion, Confirmation and Administrative Professionals Day. The new ranges come after American Greetings unveiled its Creatacard app exclusively for the iPad.

Creatacard is aimed at inspiring children to express their creativity with an easy-to-use range of realistic tools such as crayons, paint, stickers, stamps and chalk in a rainbow of colors.

“This groundbreaking app gives children the tools they need to start a lifelong friendship with their own imaginations,” says Eliza Wing, director of digital brands at American Greetings. “Creatacard gives children the opportunity to be greeting card artists.”
