Hershey takes wraps off flurry of new offerings

May 19th, 2014

CHICAGO – The Hershey Co. is showcasing its lineup of new confections and snacks at the annual Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago.

Hershey said Monday that at the expo, held this week by the National Confectioners Association, it's unveiling such new offerings as Ice Breakers Cool Blasts Chews, Brookside Crunchy Clusters and Reese's Spreads.

Described as a first-of-its-kind mint and gum duo, Ice Breakers Cool Blasts Chews provide an icy cool blast of freshness in a quickly dissolving chew. According to Hershey, Ice Breakers Cool Blasts Chews reflect evolving consumer trends: Traditional gum is on the decline, but the mint category is growing.

The new product is slated to roll out to stores starting in September. Available in a 0.8-ounce slide pack, Ice Breakers Cool Blasts Chews come in spearmint and peppermint flavors at a suggested retail price of $1.99.

Also debuting at the expo are the new Brookside Crunchy Clusters, a textured twist on the chocolate-covered, fruit-flavored snack. The product features clusters of crispy multigrain and soft fruit-flavored centers with sweetened cranberry bits, covered in smooth dark chocolate. Brookside Crunchy Clusters will be available in 2.5-ounce ($2.29) and 5-ounce $3.89) bags beginning in December.

In addition, following the launch of Hershey's Spreads is the new Reese's Spreads. Reese's Spreads bring the combination of chocolate and peanut butter in Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in spreadable form. Due out in December, the spread comes in a 13-ounce jar that retails for $3.89.

"These new products are a direct result of a creative and innovative industry-changing pipeline that focuses on consumer trends," stated Michael Wege, senior vice president and chief growth and marketing officer at Hershey. "With more than 80 brands around the world, The Hershey Co. responds to diverse consumer needs to create a robust portfolio of innovative chocolate and confection products."

Other new Hershey products being announced at the expo include the following:

• Hershey's Spreads Snacksters Graham Dippers: An on-the-go package that combines Hershey's Spreads Chocolate with Graham Dippers. Available in a 1.8-ounce package for $1.49 starting in May

• York Minis: A bite-sized version of the venerable peppermint and smooth dark chocolate candy. Also available beginning in May, York Minis come in a 2.5-ounce king size for $1.69 and an 8-oz. stand-up pouch for $3.29.

• Twizzlers Pull 'n' Peel Fruit Punch Twists: These new Twizzlers treats combine grape, cherry and orange flavors for a mixed twist. The product will be available in 2-ounce (59 cents) and 11-ounce ($1.75) bags in December.

• Twizzlers Strawberry Lemonade Filled Twists: Also new from Twizzlers, these new twists combine strawberry and lemonade flavors to deliver a mellow strawberry flavor plus a tart, sweet hint of lemon flavor. The twists will come in a 1.9-ounce bag for 59 cents and in an 11-ounce bag for $1.75, with availability in December.

Hershey added that the new offerings follow up its other 2014 product developments, including Lancaster Soft Crèmes caramels and the return of the full-size Krackel Bar. Available in Hershey's Miniatures Assortment bags, the Krackel Bar has returned to standard size for the first time since 1997.
