Bayer HealthCare appoints president

LEVERKUSEN, Germany – Dieter Weinand, president of global commercialization and portfolio management at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization Inc., has been named president of Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals.
Plans call for Weinand to assume the president's post on Aug. 1, at which time he also will join Bayer HealthCare's executive committee.
"We welcome Dieter Weinand to our management team. Based on his extensive commercial experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Dieter Weinand will drive the growth of our pharmaceutical business further and maximize the value of our product portfolio," stated Olivier Brandicourt, chief executive officer of Bayer HealthCare.
Bayer noted that Weinand has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has been responsible for markets such as Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the United States at companies including Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb, as well as for the marketing of products in therapeutic areas such as cardiology, oncology, pulmonology, dermatology, immunology and inflammation.
He will join Bayer from Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization in Princeton, N.J., where he is currently oversees a $13 billion revenue health care business.
