Mars names global chocolate chief

August 19th, 2014

MCLEAN, Va. – Jean-Christophe Flatin has been appointed as president of global chocolate at Mars Inc.

The candy, food, beverage and pet care manufacturer said Tuesday that Flatin will assume the new post on Oct. 1. He is currently global president of Royal Canin, a unit of Mars Petcare.

Flatin takes over the position from Grant Reid, who recently moved into the role of office of the president for Mars Inc.

In the new role, Flatin will oversee Mars' global chocolate business, including such brands as M&M's, Snickers, Dove, Galaxy, Mars, Milky Way and Twix. The company noted that he will be responsible for setting the global agenda for all aspects of the business and will be a member of the Mars leadership team, reporting directly to Reid.

Since becoming president of Royal Canin in late 2007, Flatin has led his team to become one of the fastest-growing business units at the Mars, the company said. Before that, he held various roles with Mars over the past 22 years.

"We are very pleased to have a leader of Jean-Christophe's caliber at the helm of the global chocolate business," Reid said in a statement. "Jean-Christophe's proven leadership, strategic mind-set and background in finance and general management will help continue the growth of this important segment within our business."
