Teva rolls out Minastrin 24 Fe generic

JERUSALEM, Israel — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has launched norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol tablets and ferrous fumarate tablets 1 mg/20 mcg, a birth control pill, in the United States.

Teva said its product is an authorized generic version of Minastrin 24 Fe tablets from Allergan Pharmaceuticals International Ltd.

A combination medicine, Minastrin 24 Fe is an estrogen/progestin oral contraceptive indicated for use by women to prevent pregnancy.

Minastrin 24 Fe totaled annual U.S. sales of approximately $361 million for the 12 months ended in December, according to IMS Health data reported by Teva.

Teva noted that the authorized generic of Minastrin 24 Fe adds to its portfolio of more than 50 oral contraceptives. The company said that one of every two oral contraceptive prescriptions in the United States is filled with a product marketed by Teva.
