MERIDIEN, Conn. — Chocolate maker Thompson Brands has shipped Adora, a calcium and vitamin D supplement in premium, all-natural chocolate.

The company said Wednesday that each Adora chocolate disk provides up to 50% of the daily value of calcium plus vitamin D3 and magnesium for optimal absorption, and at only 30 calories per serving.

Targeted at women, the product is designed to help support total body health through a variety of life stages and conditions, such as pregnancy, menopause, osteoporosis, and premenstrual syndrome and menstrual cramps.

"After a great deal of research, we have perfected the formula for a delicious tasting calcium and vitamin D supplement that is made from all-natural premium chocolate," stated Gene Dunkin, chief executive officer of Thompson Brands. "This was not an easy task, considering the delicate balance between the calcium mineral’s inherent chalkiness, the recommended daily dosage in each serving size, and the creamy texture and rich flavor we were trying to achieve."

Adora Calcium & Vitamin D Supplement, which comes in packages of 30 disks, is available in creamy milk chocolate and rich dark chocolate and can be found nationally at CVS/pharmacy stores, Whole Foods Market and other retailers for a suggested retail price of $7.99 to $9.99.

*Editor’s Note: Article updated on Sept. 23 to note that each Adora chocolate disk provides up to 50% of the daily value of calcium plus vitamin D3 and magnesium. The article previously reported an incorrect daily value percentage.
